With many national and state level congressional terms ending this year, potential candidates had until Jan. 10 to file for the 2020 General Election this November and qualify for the May 19 primary.

In the race to be the Kentucky State Representative for the 27th District, Republican first term incumbent Nancy Tate, who narrowly won the seat by a margin of six votes two years ago, will have to wait until after the primary to see who her Democrat challenger will be. Brian Chism, the former president of the Kentucky State FFA, who is an account manager for Big Iron Auctions and a Farmer from Brandenburg, will face Stacy Crosslin, a math teacher at Meade County High School and longtime employee of the school district from Flaherty, for the Democrat Party’s nomination.

Though state senator Steve Meredith’s term will expire for the 5th District, the Republican incumbent from Leitchfield faces no opposition for re-election his year.
