Anna “Mildred” Greenwell Barr, age 87, of Brandenburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, at the Harrison Healthcare Center in Corydon, IN with her children by her side. Mildred was a devoted daughter born on December 3, 1932, to Lawrence and Maggie Brown Greenwell. She loved the simple pleasures of life including traveling, weekly Rook games at her favorite local restaurant, Home Plate, cross stitching, reading, and just spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mildred also exhibited great stamina and a humble spirit by pushing through a lifelong battle with crippling rheumatoid arthritis and keeping a sweet demeanor in spite of her pain. She had an uncanny ability to quietly form friendships with all the people that she met. Mildred loved her parents and her Catholic Faith with all her heart. She was a retired Fort Knox Civil Service Worker, a member of St. Mary Magdalene and St. John the Apostle Catholic Churches. She also deeply missed visiting with her one remaining sister, Phyllis (Marvin) Rhodes of Indiana. Ms. Barr was preceded in death by her parents as well as five brothers and sisters; Thelma (Norman) Hardesty, Wallace (Mary Lena), Alton (infant child), Mary Gene and Larry (Peggy) Greenwell. She is survived by her six loving children, Dennis (Laura)Barr; Kenny (Virginaia) Barr; Rick (Julia) Barr; Donna (Brian) Foushee; Kurt (Donna) Barr; and Susan (Russ)Fackler. Mildred (Memaw) was very proud of all of her grandchildren: Dr. Shawn Sizemore, Mandy Butler, Kayla & Dylan English, Heath Bewley, Pam McFall, Rachel Gagel, Rebekah & Matthew Barr, Jeremy & Jordan Foushee, Christy Gossett, Alex, Ethan, & Clay Fackler and Bonus grandchildren- Dr. Amanda Chism and Nathan McCollum. Memaw was also lucky enough to be loved by 13 great grandchildren. When life became confusing, Mildred was blessed for approximately two years to live at All About Home Assisted Living in Brandenburg where she was treated like a beloved family member. The caring staff and fellow residents gave her many enjoyable memories and created even more friendships at the end of her life. Funeral services will be held privately for Ms. Barr’s immediate family, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Cemetery in Payneville on Wednesday, April 8. Hager Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers please send cards to the family members with a memory that you could share of our beloved Mother/Grandmother.
