Celebrating Halloween with the Meade County Public Library

BRENNA COOPER Meade County Public Library staff

Traditional trick-or-treating is a little difficult this year, but there are lots of ways to celebrate Halloween all month long.

You can participate in Halloween at the Library! Between October 19th and October 31st, visit the library in your favorite costume and borrow three or more children’s books. While you are picking out your books, take a photo in front of our spooky photo-op background. When you get to the front desk to check out, you’ll receive a treat and free book to keep for your very own!

You can also get into the spooky spirit with some fun Halloween stories, films, and music! You can reserve items online at for inside or curbside pickup, or you are always welcome to come and browse the collection in person. You can borrow titles online from Libby by Overdrive, or Hoopla. Libby by Overdrive is an app that allows you to access Kentucky Libraries Unbound, a statewide digital library that offers ebooks, magazines, movies, and audiobooks with your MCPL card. Books on Libby are available for download on to any device, including older readers. Hoopla is another digital library that has thousands of titles. You can browse through books, comic, movies, TV series, music, and audiobooks. For now, the limit has been raised to 15 titles per library card per month, but they also have a ‘Bonus Borrows’ collection of items that do not count toward your monthly total. There are no holds or wait lists on hoopla, but you do need to have a web browser or the app to use it. Now through November 20th, you can log the time you spent reading in our reading log app, Beanstack, to win fun prizes for all age groups. Be sure and count your Halloween reads!
