District prepares plan for possible bus driver shortage

Message from the school district:

The Meade County School District is currently having issues due to bus driver shortages. This, combined with drivers being quarantined, is leading to some routes being temporarily without drivers this year. Below is the plan for a possible bus driver shortage:

Routes will be combined if possible but will likely run longer than normal. This means that your student may need to wait a few extra minutes before the bus arrives. For students near the end of the temporary routes, the wait may be 20-30 minutes.

If it is not possible to combine routes, then we will double route our buses. This means that a bus would complete their route, then leave the school, and run the route that is without a driver. This would have your child arriving at school late, (an excused tardy) and would be late returning home. We will make sure that students are able to eat breakfast if students are late to arrive.

For these reasons, we encourage you to ensure that your student is supervised at the bus stop. Please call your school or the Board of Education if your bus is over 20 minutes late for information.
