Duck Derby event moves to Maukport

The first annual Mini Rubber Ducky Derby and Car Cruise, which was originally slated to take place in Brandenburg, has been moved to the campgrounds in Maukport by the old Maukport boat ramp.

Ryan Lane with Global Disaster Outreach said that the event will continue as planned this Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the new venue. The car cruise is also still taking place, and food trucks will be present.

The fundraising event will help pay for future endeavors by Global Disaster Outreach, a local non-profit that provides assistance to those in need.

The first-place prize will be $1,000. Donors can sponsor one duck for $5, six ducks for $25, 12 ducks for $50 (includes a free t-shirt), or 30 ducks for $100 (includes two free t-shirts).

As of June 21, more than 1,600 ducks have been sponsored, and the organization has raised just over $13,000 of their $15,000 goal.
