Mrs. Eleanor Carroll Hardaway Burnett, age 91, of Battletown, passed away on Friday, April 17, at the Brandenburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. While growing up in Stith Valley, Eleanor was always proud of being her father’s helper. She always hooked up the buggies to the ponies and drove the dump rake pulled by Jude and Beck. She loved country living, nature and reading. Eleanor loved riding with her family in the Fair parade and taking rides through the country. She was a Registered Nurse, working at various places in her career including Olin, Naser and Cole Clinic, the Meade County Health Department, Breckinridge Memorial Hospital and lastly, Ireland Army Community Hospital. Eleanor had a special fondness for rescuing baby birds and baby squirrels. While working at the health department she vaccinated numerous children throughout her career. Most important to Eleanor was her husband, children and grandchildren. She lived a wonderful and full life. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Carroll and Mary Richard Carman Hardaway; and her husband, George Dewey Burnett. She is survived by three children, Mary Carroll Burnett, Aimee Mangin and Charles Dewey (Debbie) Burnett; three grandchildren, Josef (Rachel) Mangin, Mary Eleanor (Brandon) Ramsey, Charles Royce Burnett; five great grandchildren, Reece Pollock, Rhett, Haylee and Landon Ramsey, Colton Dewey Burnett; and a sister, Mary David Newton. Funeral Services for will be held privately for Eleanor’s immediate family due to health concerns. Burial will take place in the Burnett Family Cemetery in Big Bend.
