Brandenburg Police have released the names of the adults injured in yesterday's explosion. Melissa Swartz, 53, and her son Daniel Swartz, 21, are both still in the intensive care unit at the University of Louisville Hospital. The 11-year-old male juvenile has been released with minor injuries. The 8-year-old female juvenile is still at the children's hospital in Louisville in the ICU.
Chief Brian Haag clarified that the production of drugs was not the cause of the explosion. He said the cause of the explosion will take some time to investigate.
Local, state, and federal entities are involved in the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
On August 13, 2020 at approx. 11:58 AM The Meade County Fire District along with Meade County EMS and Brandenburg Police were dispatched to a house explosion at 910 Old Ekron Road, Brandenburg, KY. When units arrived on the scene a structure that had been damaged by an explosion was found and was on fire. Units quickly extinguished the fire while Meade County EMS treated and transported four patients to the hospital. The explosion and ensuing fire is currently under investigation by the Meade County Fire District and the Brandenburg Police with assistance from Kentucky State Police, Kentucky State Fire Marshal and the ATF.
