During the public session of the March Fiscal Court meeting, two people asked to speak.

One was Annie Hamilton with the Meade County Chamber of Commerce, she gave the Court an update on the 176-member Chamber. She said they have more than 33 events planned for 2020. One of the biggest is the Concert in the Park series on the riverfront in downtown Brandenburg. This year, it is slated to have five concerts from May through September.

She also spoke of the LST325 landing ship, which will be docking in Brandenburg this September for four days. The ship is the last commissioned landing ship in operation and saw action in Normandy during WWII. Hamilton stated they are expecting over 20,000 people to come to Brandenburg to see the vessel. She thanked the Fiscal Court for getting with Hayden Materials to obtain a barge for the event, which is critical for the LST to dock here this fall.

She also discussed a high school job fair next month for seniors to interview with over 20 employers before graduation. She stated all students will have completed a pathway program and will also have work ready or work ethics certification to showcase. (This was prior to schools announcing they would be closing due to COVID-19. The dates for this may change.)

Hamilton said, “This is just the tip of the iceberg of what we’ve been working on.”
