Freddie L. “Fred” Vowels, 75, of Vine Grove, KY passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the University of Louisville Hospital with his children by his side.
Mr. Vowels was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Diemert Council #3379. He was a former member of Vine Grove City Council and retired from the United States Postal Service. Fred was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching UK basketball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Matthew & Bertha Clark Vowels; one brother, Thomas Wayne Vowels; a grandson, Christopher Eric Vowels; and a brother in law, Ronnie Lancaster.
One daughter, Melia Mattingly (Mark) of Rineyville, KY; one son, Chris Vowels (Jennifer) of Bowling Green, KY; two grandsons, Justin Mattingly of Rineyville, KY, Evan Vowels of Bowling Green, KY; two step-grandchildren, Eric Lyles (Britney), Rebecca Litsey (Matt) both of Bowling Green, KY; two step-great-grandchildren, Caroline, Charlotte, with one on the way (Eli); two sisters, Diane Lancaster of Flaherty, KY, Susan Haven (Tim) of Louisville, KY; two brothers, Kenny Vowels (Mary Ann) of Flaherty, KY, Nolan Vowels (Adriana) of Louisville, KY; a sister in law, Twrena Vowels of Vine Grove, KY; several nieces & nephews; a special friend, E Jane Hoskins-Vessels of Vine Grove, KY; the mother of his children, Martha Vowels; and an abundance of friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM Tuesday at Chism Family Funeral Home, Vine Grove, KY. The visitation will be limited to fifty percent of our building's capacity due to the Governor's mandate & pending steps to curtail the rising number of COVID-19 cases throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Vowels will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at St. Brigid Catholic Church, Vine Grove, KY. Burial follows at the St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery, Flaherty, KY.
