George Ballard Haley, age 86, of Brandenburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Norton Hospital, Louisville.
He was born on May 28, 1935, to George and Mary (Rice) Haley in Lynch, KY. He graduated from Lynch High School in 1953, where he was a proud starter on the Lynch Bulldogs football team. George was also an alumnus of then-Cumberland College. He married Jo Anne (Couch) Haley on December 22, 1956. After graduation, he worked as a coal miner in Lynch, KY, for US Steel. After moving to Brandenburg in 1961, he worked for Olin Chemical Corporation as a control operator until his retirement on June 1, 1997. George was a member of First Baptist Church, Brandenburg since 1962 and served as a deacon.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Ray Haley; and his daughter, Lisa Haley Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Jo Anne; son, Tim Haley and wife Kovanna (Chism); and son-in-law, Craig Smith. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Kristin Haley Powers, Jennifer (Kyle) Pullem, and Jessie Grace Smith. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Violet Elizabeth Pullem, Veda Rose Pullem, Isla Elise Bruce, and Ada Therese Powers.
Visitation was held at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 30 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. EST and at the church after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. EST at First Baptist Church, Brandenburg, with interment at Cap Anderson Cemetery.
