Two days after a devastating outbreak of tornados, including the “Quad State Tornado” swept through four states, including Kentucky, possibly setting a record for a tornado’s distance travelled in the state, and Meade Countians are already in action doing what they can do to help. Global Disaster Outreach, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and its members are collecting volunteers and donations for a trip to Mayfield to help in any capacity that they can. On Facebook they have posted a two-day fundraiser event.
“We are having a 2 day fundraising event! However much we raise, we will be heading down Monday night and Tuesday morning to distribute! I need funds and I need bodies! I've had a million people ask me all the time how they can help, and this is it. We need bottled water and work supplies. Gloves, shovels, rakes, cordless tools would also be a plus! Actual item donations would be better because I can get them today or tomorrow if you out shopping! Any money raised will be spent in Mayfield! Anybody willing to travel we will get you there and back!”
As of this article Global Disaster Outreach’s fundraiser has raised $2,415.00. Their goal is to raise $5,000.00.
In a post on his Facebook page, one of Global Disaster Outreach’s founders, Ryan Lane, also posted, “As of right now Chad Bruner with Bruner construction and Fackler Mechanical will be going down with us with excavator and plenty of tools to knock as much as we can out in a day. We also have 4 trucks and trailers ready to be loaded up. This is going great, and we are really going to pack a punch hopefully just keep sharing and spreading the word I want to head down with a convoy people. If I'm going to do it, I want to do it big!”
Besides volunteers and funds, Lane has also expressed a need for bottled water to take down with the volunteers on their trip. “My address is 163 Michael ln Brandenburg, KY 40108! If you are out today grab a case of water or two and swing it by, PLEASE!!! I won't be able to meet up with everyone on such short notice but guarantee all of these is very needed! If you want to help, please private message me and a huge help would be at least adding your friends to this fundraiser!!! If you drop anything off set it in front of my shop it sits to the right of my house!!! Again, we need people as well to help!
If anyone is interested in helping Global Disaster Outreach’s Mayfield mission, you can help by contacting Ryan Lane by phone, on Facebook, or donating to their fundraiser. They plan to leave tomorrow so they are short on time and need all the help they can get.
