Inmate passes away after experiencing a medical emergency at the Meade County Detention Center

On Friday, March 4, an inmate at the Meade County Detention Center was observed having a medical emergency by a jail deputy, according to Meade County Jailer, J. J. Scarborough. Meade County E911 was immediately notified of the emergency. Scarborough says that jail deputies initiated life saving measures until a Meade County EMS ambulance arrived.

Upon arrival, first responders assumed care of the inmate and transported him to Harrison County Hospital, Scarborough says, but the inmate was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The inmate was identified as Daymon Miller, 58.

Kentucky State Police were notified per the Department of Corrections and Meade County Detention Center’s policies. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death. Despite the inmate ultimately passing away, Scarborough praised his staff, Meade County E911 and Meade County EMS for their quick action (only 16 minutes passed from the time the inmate initially showed signs of medical distress until the time EMS was en route to Harrison County Hospital with Miller) in rendering medical aid.
