The MCHS Chorus will present "Into the Woods Jr." May 6-8 at the MCHS Auditorium. It will be the first live performance on the MCHS stage in over a year!
Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning musical premiered on Broadway in 1987 starring Bernadette Peters. Some may be familiar with the 2014 Disney movie adaptation of the show starring Meryl Streep. "Into the Woods Jr." is a shortened version, eliminating mature content and most of the second act. It’s family friendly, but still contains the wit and lyrical power of the original musical, which was based on Brothers Grimm fables. This musical fairytale follows a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.
The show is directed by Shaune Rebilas and Derek Crafton, with scenery by Jenn Shelton and Dave Liles, costumes by Angela Liles. The student cast includes Cierra Redmond, Charlie Saylor, Ethan McCormick, Jazmine DeBeauchamp, Dylan Emig, Veronica Liles, Alexis Clark, Zoe Sondergeld, Anna Whelan, Carter Thompson, Dylan DeBeauchamp, Grace Mattingly, Angelina Stinnett, Allie Reardon, Aubrey Schmidt, Ryan Welch, Madison Beach, Haley and Hannah English.
Two performances will be held each evening. The first will be at 5:30, and the second at 8:00. Tickets are $10 in advance, and seats are reserved in order to preserve social distancing between parties.
