James “Jim” M. Chambers, Jr., 86, beloved husband and father passed away peacefully on December 18, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
He was born September 2, 1933 in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. to the late James M. Chambers and Emma Mabel (Stephens) Chambers. The family lived in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Horse Cave and Glasgow, Ky. and Dickson, Tenn.
He graduated from Western Kentucky State College in Bowling Green, Ky. receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1955 and a Master of Arts Degree in 1959. He served in the United States Army 1955-1963 and was Honorably Discharged on September 17, 1963 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He served 18 months in Oahu, HI (1957-1958). He later continued his education at IUSB by receiving a degree in Learning Disabilities.
He married Joyce Eileen McCay of Mishawaka, Ind. on August 9, 1968 at First Baptist Church in Mishawaka, Ind. They both were educators meeting at John F. Nuner Elementary School.- he as the Guidance Counselor and she as a Student Teacher.
