Mrs. Joan Carol (Glass) Gagel, age 81, departed this life for the next, peacefully at her home, Sunday, January 23rd, 2022. She was born in Louisville to the late Carl and Anna Glass, May 1st, 1940. Joanie is survived by her children, Cheryl Lush (Larry) and Stacie Jenkins (Barry); grandchildren, BJ Rhodes (Emily), Danny Rhodes (Jennifer), Brittany Adams (Josh), Danelle Morales, and Taylor Chadwick; many great grandchildren; a sister, Kathy Kennedy; and a brother, Sonny Glass. Joanie was preceded in death last year by the love of her life and husband, Larry Gagel, and her son, Tommy Gagel, who passed in 2008.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Joanie understands that she was a warm and caring woman who tried to make everyone feel like family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and devoted friend. She and Larry moved to Meade County in 1976 where they would become important members of the community. One of Joanie’s passions was being a member of the Meade County Democratic Party, helping in the many successes of the party over the years and helping to organize their many bean soup dinners. She loved to travel with her husband by motorcycle, plane, or RV all over the country, wintering at the Red Coconut in Fort Myers, Florida until their later years. Joan enjoyed spending time playing cards with friends at the local Moose Lodge. She hosted countless holidays and cookouts throughout the years making her home a warm and welcoming place for family and friends, assuring everyone had a cold drink and a plate of warm food in their hands. We know that Joanie will now be at peace being reunited with her dear Larry and son Tom in heaven. Funeral services were held at 11:00AM on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with Rev. Toan Do officiating. Burial followed in St. Andrews Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday and from 9:00AM until the time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider donating to Mass of the Air, a program that allowed for her to attend mass while at home and in the hospital.
