The Meade County Farmer’s Market, located at the Extension Office pavilion on Old Ekron Road in Brandenburg, had a big celebration at their Saturday Market on August 6th. Mary Gavin, the market manager, announced to the customers who arrived that a special ceremony would take place at 11:00 a.m. before the vendors would begin selling.

In conjunction with National Farmer’s Market Week, which runs from August 7th-13th, Judge Executive Leslie Stith read a proclamation declaring the week of August 7th-13th Meade County Farmer’s Market Week. The proclamation stated that farmer’s markets serve as significant outlets by which small to medium, new and beginning, and veteran agricultural producers can market agricultural products, generating revenue that supports the sustainability of family farms and the revitalization of rural communities nationwide. The proclamation closed with a call to Meade County citizens to celebrate farmer’s markets with appropriate observance and activities. At the end of the proclamation Judge Stith rang a cowbell to officially open the market for the day.
