The Meade County Ladywave Volleyball team finished the regular season with a 4-10 record, and after advancing to the Region 3 Tournament by being the district 12 runner up, they knew the teams were just going get tougher. If they planned on being there in the end, it wasn’t going to be easy. This year, the Region 3 tournament was held at Grayson County High School with Meade taking on District 10 Champions, the Ohio County Lady Eagles, on Oct. 26.
Meade started the first set looking uneasy, or maybe it was just their nerves, but Ohio County took advantage of Meade miscues and took the first set with ease. At the start of the second set, Meade turned the tables on Ohio County, setting up their big hitters like, Brooke McElfresh, Ann Rogers, Emma Mattingly and Clara Rogers who settled into hit kill shots that found their marks. With the front line working well, Meade jumped out to a six-point lead, and never looked back, taking the second set.
The third set would prove to be a battle with neither team giving an inch. It would take Meade a few extra points to get the win, but in the end, they would take the set, leaving them just one set away from advancing to the Region Semi-Finals. As hard as Meade tried, Ohio County would just not go away, making the fourth set a continuation of the third set with both teams battling for each point with neither team able to take a commanding lead the entire game. But in the end, it would be Ohio County who rallied to get a sideout, and the last two points to stay alive. With that win, Ohio County sent the match into a fifth and final set.
In the fifth set, Meade dominated Ohio County at the net by blocking kills, then returning kills of their own that Ohio Co just could not handle. With Meade feeling it, they put together a game for the ages as they went onto win the final set by a score of 15-2 to advance to the Region 3 Semi-Final Match.
