Ladywaves ground Lady Eagles

The Meade County High School Ladywave soccer team has been a scoring machine, and it was no different when they took on the North Bullitt Lady Eagles on Aug 16. It took some time for Meade to get their offense moving in the right direction against the North Bullitt defense, but once they found the holes and were able to put a pass into open space, they took full advantage and began to mount an attack on the North Bullitt goalkeeper. Senior Grace Mattingly was the first to strike, putting a hard shot in off her right foot, that put Meade up midway through the first half. Minutes later, senior Cheyenne Stafford ,gave Meade their second goal of the game, off a deflection from the North Bullitt goalkeeper.

After the two quick goals, the North Bullitt defense began double and triple teaming the Meade strikers, which made it difficult to get any accurate shots off and made for easy stops for the goalkeeper. Meade’s offense never stopped the attack and minutes before the half, senior Lauren Littrel, beat her defender to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper and beat her by booting in a shot to the top right corner to give Meade the 3-0 lead at the half.

Just two minutes into the second half, senior Cyia Robertson got into the scoring action by taking a pass from Littrel, beating two defenders and the goalkeeper to put Meade up by four. Meade’s attacks just proved to be too much for the North Bullitt defense as junior Matti Clanton and freshmen Addison Poole both scored giving Meade their fifth and sixth goal of the game.

With Meade’s defense playing so well, and stopping any attack, North Bullitt tried to pull together. Head Coach David Craycroft pulled his starting goalkeeper, senior Kerstin Nevitt, to sub in his backup freshmen Lilliana Brady. Nevitt quickly changed jerseys and went right back in on the front line, and only minutes into her swap, scored Meade’s eighth goal of the game, and her first goal as a Ladywave.

Meade would finish the game with Robertson scoring her third goal of the game, completing another hat trick with just minutes left on the clock to beat North Bullitt 9-0.
