LGBTQ+ flag flies over the Vatican

Editorial submitted by Conrad Doyle

What is going on within the walls of the Vatican, foreign embassies and the United States as pertains to the flying of flags? Have we become a nation or people that no longer respects the lives of those that have given their lives to defend The Flag of the United States of America?

Have you ever taken the time to find out the guidelines as they apply to flying the flag of The United States of America? What about the rules of placement of our flag on flag poles? What are the guidelines as the apply to the separation of church and state? I fear that my generation is the last to know and understand the history behind and reasons for the respectful flying and placement of our National Flag. I am not talking about patriotism, I am referring to the respect and history of our flag and what it says about pride and equality. To begin this series, let’s define (according to Wellmind.org) what LGBTQ+ acronym represents: “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or sometimes questioning), and others. The “plus” represents other sexual identities including pansexual and Two-Spirit. The first four letters of the acronym have been used since the 1990s, but in recent years there has been an increased awareness of the need to be inclusive of other sexual identities to offer better representation.” The acronym is used to represent a diverse range of sexualities and gender-identities, referring to anyone who is transgender and/or same/similar gender attracted. In other words, this acronym stands for sexual choices or identities PERIOD! It is a lifestyle/sexual choice made by individuals who, whether “Born That Way” as Lady Gaga sings about in a song that calls Christianity “the religion of the insecure” or who by choice has made the choice of sexual identity. Help me understand this: Why would the Vatican allow/sanction the flying of a flag that clearly represents the very tenets of the Catholic Church immediately after flying of the BLM (Black Lives Matter) flag from the same embassy? Is this what many suggest, an act of trolling of the Catholic Church? What about the separation of church and state? Does this mean the Pope stands in disagreement with the Canon’s of the Catholic Church? Is, as has been suggested, LGBTQ+ and BLM just another wing of a partisan political campaign that will stop at nothing to dismantle other political platforms and religious attachments? The fact that these flags are being flown is not so much my concern but the Pope’s decision to be politically correct and flying whatever the “flavor of the month” flag the current political party dictates. But, even more disturbing is that ANY flag is allowed to be flown on a pole strictly dedicated to the Flag of The United States of America.
