Marian Williams Bennett

Marian Williams Bennett, 90, passed away on April 26, 2021. Marian was born on October 30, 1930 on the family farm which she owned at her passing in Stith Valley, Meade County, Kentucky; the daughter of John Moreman Williams Sr and Frances Funk Williams. She attended and graduated from Shumate School, a one-room rural school in Stith Valley, Meade County High School and Bowling Green Business School.

In 1950 she married Ray Bennett, also of Meade County, and settled in Brandenburg. They moved to their own farm near Garrett in 1958 and Marian and Ray enjoyed the many years together reaching 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2016. They had two daughters, Diane Bennett Medley and Karen Bennett Prather who both raised their families in Meade County and attended Buck Grove Baptist Church as a family virtually every Sunday.

Over the years, Marian and Ray were very active in the community. Mostly they were seen together at picnics, county fair parades, farm auctions and sales, dinner meetings or in their later years, funeral visitations. But Marian also had her own interests. She was an avid gardener and talented seamstress. She frequented her own community groups including the WMU at Buck Grove and the Ambrose Meador DAR Brandenburg Chapter. But her true love was music and she participated in that until her last few months. She was a long-time member of the Buck Grove church choir, played the piano for church services and Vacation Bible School, participated in the Foggy Dew Dulcimer Players Group and entertained regularly at nearby nursing homes with one or more of her grandchildren. She was not satisfied with only herself being involved with music as she ensured that her daughters played the piano, sang in church and school choirs and played the organ and piano for church services as well. When her grandchildren came along, she continued her focus on music and ensured that they played piano or violin and also continued the family’s singing tradition.

Marian was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her brother, John Moreman Williams Jr. She is survived by her daughters Diane Medley (Prewitt Lane) of Louisville and Karen Prather (Tony) of Garrett; her grandchildren Rachel Medley Corum (Jim) of Brentwood, TN, Eugene Medley (Kim) of Rineyville, KY, Leah Medley Schmiedt (Jason) of Prospect, KY, Rebekah Medley Doran (Evan) of Minneapolis, MN, Robert Prather of Gainesville, FL and Melanie Prather Crady (Jeff) of Sonora, KY; nine great-grandchildren; and a nephew Jake Williams.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to All About Home Assisted Living and Hosparus Health Central Kentucky.

Those who wish to remember Marian in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Buck Grove Baptist Church, 255 Buck Grove Rd, Ekron, KY 40117.

Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday, May 1 and from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 2 at Buck Grove Baptist Church, Ekron, KY and the funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM at the church with burial immediately thereafter in the Buck Grove Cemetery.
