Her desire to play the piano began before she could climb onto the piano stool; she’d raise her hands high until someone sat her there. Blessed with perfect pitch, she played several instruments: piano, organ, guitar, percussion, and trombone. Serving the Church with her music began while she was a student. She was music director, organist, and choir director at Holy Trinity Catholic Church until it burned down and then at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, both in New Albany, IN. Mary’s final church service, before illness forced her retirement, was at Corydon Presbyterian Church. Additionally, she taught piano to many children and adults throughout her adult life. Mary had a second passion, creating with needle and thread. She was an excellent and professional seamstress with sewing skills second to none. She sewed clothes for herself, her children, family, friends, clients, the Kentucky Opera Association, and other arts programs in her community She was proud of her perfect attendance record through all 12 grades of school at Flaherty Grade and High School. Growing up on a farm, she had her share of chores. milking cows daily and churning butter on weekends, Mary was indeed a country girl with wonderful talents.
