Meade County HOF inducts two new members

On Jan 31, Meade County High School inducted two more alumni into their Hall of Fame. After the Ladywave Basketball game, and prior to the start of the Greenwave Basketball team taking the floor, MCHS Principal, Janette Schmidt along with Athletic Director Todd Clanton, presented Fred Ditto and Bob Sphire with honoree plaques.

Fred Ditto, Class of 1968, has had a huge impact on the youth of Meade County for years. He has coached youth football for 16 years. Coached the 7th and 8th grade SPMS football team for the last three years. (2018-Present) Been a member of the MCHS Football team’s “Chain Gang” for the last 42 years. (1978-Present) Coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball for 23 years, and umpired Little League baseball for five. In 2020 Mr. Ditto was inducted into the Meade County Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bob Sphire, Class of 1975, is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University as well as Western Kentucky University. He has been coaching teams as a head coach from 1989-2019. (Still active) His career stats are 300 wins, with 106 losses (Still active) A few of Mr. Sphire’s significant achievements were, two Championships, plus two runner ups. He also coached 215 college football players at various levels. Nine NFL Players (1-1st round draft pick) One MLB Player (1st round draft pick), and nine national State, Region, or District Coach of the Year awards. Sphire is also a Hall of Fame member at North Gwinnett HS, Lexington Catholic HS in addition to being inducted to the 2020 Meade County Athletic Hall of Fame.
