Meade County Public Library Resources and Services

The Meade County Public Library (MCPL) is home to over 43,250 books for all ages (including large print), 11,900 audio books, Kindle e-readers, Playaway Launchpads, DVDs, and video games, and music CDs. If we don’t have a book you are looking for, we’ll try to find it for you! Our Interlibrary Loan service can borrow items from other libraries and have them delivered to MCPL free of charge. You are also welcome to request materials to be purchased and added to our collection (The MCPL reserves the right to make the final decision about purchases).

In addition to access to physical books, the Library has two digital collections available to patrons anytime, anywhere. Download Libby or Hoopla through the app store on your device and follow the on-screen prompts to login to your account. You can call us and we will walk you through it or help you with any problems. Libby by Overdrive is part of the Libraries Unbound system, which means they have an enormous collection of titles from all over Kentucky. With your MCPL card, you can check out books, audio books, magazines, movies and more. Items from Libby can be downloaded on to any device, including older readers. Hoopla is an online reading app with access to movies, TV series, books, audio books, music albums, and more. Hoopla is free to use with your MCPL card, and each user can check out up to 10 items a month.

The Library offers dozens of programs every month, all for free! There are fitness classes including Zumba, Cardio Fusion, Strength & Tone, several different kinds of Yoga, children’s programs for different age groups from 0-12, teen programs and reading club for ages 13-18, and adult programs such as Artsy Craftsy and Card Making for ages 18 and up. For some programs you will need to register with your MCPL card, but others are open to everyone. Some programs are curbside pickup, some are in person, and some are online. To see everything being offered, as well as dates, times, location, and instructions, visit our website and click ‘Event Calendar’.

The Library also offers the community access to a notary public, faxing ($1 a page), printing and copies (10¢ a page for black and white, 25¢ a page for color), and open wifi (available from most of the parking lot), and access to databases including genealogy and ancestry sources through our website.

The MCPL has two library cards to choose from, both of which are free to sign up for. With a digital library card, you have access to our online libraries, Libby by Overdrive and Hoopla. You can sign up for this card at any time at under the ‘About’ tab. After receiving your information, we will open your account and mail your Library Card to you. Please be patient when waiting for it to arrive. With a physical library card, you have full privileges to everything the Library offers. You can reserve books for curbside pickup, borrow books in person, access both our digital collections through Libby and Hoopla, register for programs, use the public computers, and much more. Getting a library card is easy. To be eligible for a card, adults must live or work in Meade County. Bring in a valid driver’s license or Active-Duty Military ID to the front desk for registration. There is no age limit for children to attain a card. To get a library card for a child, their legal guardian must bring a qualifying ID to register them.
