There is now a Louisville-Dixie Highway Driver Licensing Regional Office open for those needing to get a Kentucky REAL ID. This will offer a closer location to obtain these new IDs. Some residents of Meade County have had to travel as far as Owensboro to obtain theirs earlier this year, after being unable to get timely appointments at the Elizabethtown Regional Office.
The office is located at 4919 Dixie Highway, Suite A and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. REAL ID credential services are currently by appointment only. Appointments can be made online at https://bit.ly/KYTCScheduleAnAppointment.
The REAL ID enforcement date has been delayed several times but as of now, goes into effect on May 3, 2023. At that time, they will be required to pass through airport security checkpoints for U.S. commercial air travel or to visit military bases and federal facilities that require ID.
