Robert Anthony McGarvey, 74, of Irvington passed away Sunday April 12 at his residence. He was U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service; he was a member of the Rosetta United Methodist Church, a former city councilman; and he was a loving father and grandfather. He was born September 21, 1945 to the late Roy Donald McGarvey and Veronica Louise Preston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Forester McGarvey; and a daughter, Sheryl Coyle. He is survived by his son, Howard (Kristee) Ross of Irvington; a grandson, Justin (Crystal) Coyle; three granddaughters, Heather Espinoza, Tiffani (Joseph) McCown, and Catherine Emily Jean Ross; five great-grandchildren, Cooper and Kaylee Coyle, Donovan, Arden, Emma Stone, and Cruz Espinoza. He is also survived by his step-father, Nelson Woodruff of Menlo Park Terrace, NJ; five sisters and two brothers, Jeanette Dineen of Edison, NJ, Maryanne Argese of Helmetta, NJ, Denise Santoro of Hillsborough, NJ, Veronica Bookman of Sarasota, FL, Sheila King of Fords, NJ, Nelson Woodruff, Jr, of Succasunna, NJ, and Andrew Woodruff of Hamilton, NJ; several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Expressions of sympathy maybe given to the Breckinridge County Animal Shelter, 498 Glen Nash Rd. Hardinsburg, KY 40143 All services will be private. Mr. McGarvey will be buried in Custer Cemetery.
