Robert “Bob” St. Clair

Robert “Bob” St. Clair, 88, died Friday, December 31, peacefully at home in Brandenburg, KY.

Born in Louisville, KY, Bob attended St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School and Flaget High School where he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, and football. At age 17 Bob joined the Kentucky Air National Guard, was activated into the U. S. Air Force then continued his service with the KYANG and U.S. Air Force Reserves, serving our country for a total of 26 years. In 1974, Bob began working for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He furthered his education at Bellarmine College and Indiana University Southeast. Bob accepted a promotion with the Corps of Engineers and moved family to Tulsa, OK, for the next 13 years. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tulsa Federal Employees Credit Union and as Chairman of The Parish Council of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Upon retirement he and Jackie returned home to the Louisville area, residing in Doe Valley. Bob spent more than 20 years as a high school and college basketball referee. In 1973, he was proudly awarded a gavel presented by the Kentucky Basketball Officials’ Association, proclaiming him to be Honorary President of the Association. Bob married his soulmate, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Shea) St. Clair, in 1974. Together they enjoyed traveling across the US, Canada, Europe, the British Isles, Mexico, and the Cayman Islands, as well as competing in tennis tournaments and golf outings with friends. Bob’s greatest joy in life was the love of his family. He was always ready to dish out ice cream to the grandkids on visits and rallied all the money for the horse races at their annual Derby party. The countless stories he told of his kids, grandkids and great grandkids made him the happiest. And Bob was thrilled to enjoy a final toast of Pappy with his beloved brother, John. Bob will be remembered for having a smile that lit up the room, carrying a tune to rival the best, and always having a good joke on deck. He loved his nightcap with Jack (Daniels that is) because it “tickled his teeth and curled his hair and made him feel like a millionaire”. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. St. Clair, Sr. and Loretta Campbell St. Clair, daughter Nancy Camp and son-in-law William “Bill” Pierce. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline St. Clair; daughters Sue (Dana) Kolter of New Albany, IN, Jean Miller of Louisville, KY, Mary (Stan) Paur of Houston, TX, and Anne (Martin) Smithson of Louisville, KY; sons Phil (Teresa) St. Clair of Louisville, KY, David (Cathy) St. Clair of Louisville, KY; stepdaughter Theresa Pierce of Georgetown, IN; stepsons Lance (Tammy) Lehman of New Albany, IN, Daniel (Rebecca) Lehman of Lutz, FL; 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; brother John (Jo Ann) St. Clair of Louisville, KY.
