Robert William “Bobby” Smith, Jr. age 84, of Irvington, KY passed away in Louisville, KY on Saturday, November 7, 2020.
He was born on November 21, 1935 in Irvington, KY, son of the late Robert William Smith, Sr. and Gladys Spink Smith. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Mary Thompson Smith; his daughter, Vickie Smith Hall and his brother Richard Smith.
Bobby was a member of Holy Guardian Angel Church in Irvington. He was a barber when he was younger and worked as a truck driver for 45 years. He grew up on a farm and at one time his family operated a dairy farm where he had to milk the cows before going to school. He met his first wife at the Irvington Skating Rink, they had 3 children before she passed away, after just 6 years of marriage. He met his second wife through his sister-in-law Joyce Smith who worked with Margaret at the First State Bank in Irvington. His motto was “Hard work never killed anybody”.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Margaret P. Smith; children, Rhonda (Randy) Dore of Irvington and Sharon (Mike) Todd of Richmond, KY; sisters, Phyllis Bryant, Kay Sinnett, Gail (Roger) Decker and Mary (Steve) Merritt; brothers, Edward Smith and Jimmy (Janie) Smith; grandchildren, Jonathan Todd, Brandi Dore-Madden, Jessica Todd, Tara Dore Hall, and Lauren Hall Hagen; and great-grandchildren, Michael Hagen, Scarlett Mount and Rhett Hall
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. E.S.T. on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from the Holy Guardian Angel Church in Irvington, with burial to follow in Mt. Merino Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 4-8 P.M. E.S.T. from the Alexander Funeral Home in Irvington with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. E.S.T. and after 9 A.M. on Thursday at the Holy Guardian Angel Church.
