Mr. Russell Calvin “Bubby” Willis, age 76, of Louisville, KY passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at Kindred Hospital, Louisville, KY. Mr. Willis was retired from Ford Motor Company with 35 years service, was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War receiving the Army Commendation Medal, had a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Kentucky University and was a former manager of the Kentuckiana Blades Hockey Team. He was an avid U of L fan and was a season ticket holder for both Men’s Basketball and Football.
Russell was a dedicated servant of God. He loved his family and the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he donated much of his time and talents. He was always the first to arrive on Sunday mornings and the last to leave. Among other things, he served as the Minister of Music, Chairman of the Trustee Board, President of the Zion Grove Mass Choir, and President of the Zion Grove Brotherhood.
Mr. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Willis and Laura Elaine Sledge; his brothers, Charlie, David, Bernice and Ronald “Dickie” Willis; and his sisters, Helen “Sissy” Willis Bryant and Sarah Steele, New York, NY. He is survived by one sister, Mary Tyson, New York, NY; a sister in law, Helen Willis, Stith Valley, KY; two special loving friends, David Barnett, Radcliff, KY and Diana Jones, Louisville, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church will Rev. Jade McQueary and Rev. Glen Gordon officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 AM Monday, May 10, 2021 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY directed by Hager Funeral Home.
