School district donates $4,296 for breast cancer awareness

Pictured above are school nurses Emily Buckman, Karen Cottrell and Edie Pace presenting their donation check to American Cancer Society's Leslie Hammer.

During October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Meade County school nurses conducted a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. With a donation to the American Cancer Society, school employees were able to dress down on Fridays during the month of October.

A total of $4,296 was raised. Collecting donations for breast cancer awareness is not a new project for Meade County employees. Over the past 12 years, Meade County School nurses have collected more than $96,000 for breast cancer research and awareness. This is normally a community-wide project where many Meade County employers allow their staff to participate alongside the school system by purchasing breast cancer t-shirts and wearing them with their favorite blue jeans. COVID didn't permit the sale of t-shirts this year, but the school nurses have it on their agenda to bring this community project back in October of 2021. Next year, they hope to surpass the $100,000 mark. The school nurses would like to say thank you to Meade County for their continued support and for always going above and beyond to offer a helping hand.
