Shirley Jane (Morgan) Lucas

Shirley Jane (Morgan) Lucas, 79, of Rineyville, KY, passed away Saturday, May 22 at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville surrounded by her family. She passed away 2 days before her 80th birthday.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Emma Mae Morgan, Her brothers, Ralph, Marion, Bernard, Louie, and Donnie Morgan, and her sisters, Juanita Morris, Ina Cain, and Erma Bewley.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Bernard Lucas of Rineyville; Her two daughters, Gwendolynn Chaudoin (Matt) of Hopkinsville, and Stephanie Breeding (Jon) of Rineyville; Her granddaughter, Sadie Jane Chaudoin, her step-grandson, Jacob Lee Breeding, Her sisters, Sue Hayden (Wayne) of Rineyville and Margie Sharp of Wax, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jane taught in Hardin County Schools for 30 ½ years. She taught at both Howevalley and Rineyville Schools. She retired in 1994, as a Chapter 1 reading teacher at Rineyville. She was a member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

Jane accepted Christ as her Savior as a child at a summer bible school at New Salem Baptist Church. She was baptized in Herman Bewley’s pond in Rineyville. Before Jane passed, she asked the family to tell others that Jesus loves you and if you do not yet know Christ as your Savior, you can accept Him. Jane spent many years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School to many children throughout the community. It was her desire for all to know Christ. She wanted her last words to be, “Be prepared and accept Jesus!”

The funeral will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, May 27 at Elizabethtown Baptist Church, 1525 North Miles, Elizabethtown with Bro. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will be at New Salem Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 26 from 4:00 to 8:00 at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Visitation will continue at 9:30 on Thursday at the church.
