The Stuart Pepper Middle School Greenwave Football team passed its latest test on Sept. 16 at Hamilton Field with their win over the LaRue County Middle School Hawks by a score of 28-14. The Greenwaves, now 4-0, used their running game to move the ball down the field, handing the ball to Cruz Redmond who scored all four of the Greenwaves touchdowns.

“That by far was the best, and well coached team that we have faced all season,” Head coach Gerry Whelan told his players after the game. “They were solid on the inside, and they had two beasts for linebackers that did a good job of containing the outside.”

The Greenwave defense was also a major contributor to the win. The defensive line caused fumbles and did a good job at containing the Hawks running backs, even though a few did get some big gains, but that happens in football.

“I thought we had a good effort all the way around on defense,” Assistant Coach Chris Brown told his players. “I was proud to see that our defense just didn’t let them run over top of them. They did a great job of standing there and taking the hit, slowing down their momentum, and allowing others to get in there and stop the run. There is nothing more demoralizing than getting runover top of, and they didn’t let that happen today.”

The Greenwaves still have two more games in the regular season and hope to keep their streak alive.
