So far this season, the talk around the middle school volleyball courts is all about the undefeated Stuart Pepper Middle School Ladywave volleyball team. On Jan 28, when the Grayson County Middle School Lady Cougars came to SPMS to take on the Ladywave powerhouse, it was all getting business done once again. In the first set both teams traded sideouts, not allowing either team to jump out too far in the lead, but midway through the set, SPMS began putting together a string of points with their front line which netted them a six-point lead over GCMS forcing their coach to call a timeout to slow SPMS’s point streak down. The timeout did little to slow down SPMS’s scoring, but they were able to get the sideout, and put three-points on the scoreboard. However, they were unable to close the gap on SPMS. The Ladywave front line did not take much more time to finish off the first set with a kill, then a miscue at the netted them the win by a score of 21-14.
In the second set, the SPMS powerhouse kept their momentum going, jumping out to 7-2 lead over Grayson, once again forcing their coach to call a timeout to get the team refocused. After the timeout, Meade Co had a hiccup, which allowed Grayson to close the gap as they put up four quick points to get to within three. Meade recovered nicely after a quick timeout, called by Head Coach Todd Saylor, to extend their lead over Grayson by six. That would be the closest Grayson would ever get, as Meade did not allow another sideout, beating them in straight sets, to win their fifth straight match. They now hold a season record of 5-0 and continue to be the talk of the middle school volleyball scene.
