On Friday, May 13, Stuart Pepper Middle School 8th grader Fidel Garcia headed to Assumption High School in Louisville to take part in the 2nd Annual Middle School Dream Mile. This event takes the fastest 16 boys and the fastest 16 girls in the state and has them race to see who can run the fastest mile. Garcia qualified for the race at a meet on April 19 when he ran a 4:46.17 mile. This not only qualified him for the Dream Mile race but saw him ranked number one in the state with the fastest mile of the 16 boys who qualified. Friday night, he bested that time and finished the race in first place with a time of 4:44.85. Fidel Garcia is now Kentucky’s Fastest Middle School Miler, crossing the finish line a full second ahead of second place and just over three seconds ahead of third place.
