Stephen Joseph Whelan, 73, of Ekron, KY, died peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2020 at home surrounded by family.
Steve worked for the F.B.I. before returning home and became a machinist for naval ordinance where he eventually retired. He was always known for his auto body restoration and drag racing his fast cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Laverne Whelan.
He is survived by his three children, Kelli Whelan of Flaherty, KY, Jason Grider of Lady Lakes, FL and Kendrick Whelan of Louisville, KY; two granddaughters, Jorden Medley of Rhodelia, KY and Brooke Deer of Flaherty, KY; a great grandson, Kayden Stith; and six siblings, Pat Ward of Ekron, KY, Anita Seymour of Ekron, KY, Becky Beck of Foster City, CA, Keith (Georgia) Whelan of Lexington, SC, Norbert (Robyn) Whelan of Louisville, KY and Mark (Jennifer) Whelan of Anchorage, KY.
The Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, in Flaherty, KY with Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery in Flaherty.
Visitation was on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday starting at 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home, in Vine Grove, KY. Due to COVID 19 restrictions a limited number of people will be allowed into the funeral home at one time.
