Stories from Home with the Meade County Public Library

This Christmas, much like the rest of this year, is being celebrated a little differently than how we usually would. Where we would normally have four or five opportunities for pictures with Santa, we had to get creative. Santa and Mrs. Claus were kind enough to come for the Tuesday Program pickups for the last three weeks, and hopefully you were able to see them there. If you did not, don’t worry: one week they stayed to make a video of Mrs. Claus reading The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore. You can find the video by searching for the Meade County Public Library on YouTube, or find us on Facebook and follow the link from there. Listen with your own copy of the book to enjoy the pictures while Mrs. Claus reads, or watch Santa as he acts out parts of the story.

Also in time for the holidays, but here to stay, is Dial-A-Story! Many patrons remember Dial-A-Story from Miss Pickle’s time with us, and we are happy to be able to bring it back. Call 270-422-BOOK (2665) to choose from nine stories and a poem, some read by our current children’s librarian, Ms. Joy, and others read by Miss Pickle. She left a few tape recordings of herself, which Ms. Joy has been able to digitize so you can hear Miss Pickle read once again.

You can join us on Facebook every Friday at 10am for a story time! Usually it is a live reading from Ms. Joy, and sometimes it’s a recording of a story being read aloud. Either way, we make sure to have several stories available every week. The videos are kept online for 24 hours after being published, so you can pick what time to listen.

You can call the Library at 270-422-2094 for more information, or visit our website at to see a full calendar of programs and events. Happy reading!
