There’s still time to donate to Angel Ministry

The Meade County Angel Ministry is a local, well-known non-profit organization with far-reaching benefits.

Though the Angel Ministry is responsible for delivering a lot of aid locally throughout the year, Christmas is a special time for them because it’s where their roots are. Their original purpose was to help families in need during the Christmas season, and the organization was initially called the “Angel Tree Ministry.”

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, things have looked very different. Many of the volunteers for the Angel Ministry are in demographics that put them at greater risk of death or serious injury from the virus.

Rather than the traditional model in which people are able to select an “angel” — a family in need — from a tree in a store and go shopping for them, the Angel Ministry has leaned heavily on online resources to spread cheer this holiday season.

They provided the public with an application to adopt a family for the holidays. Angels were able to request up to four items, and those interested in adopting them could select the size of the family they wanted to help. The organization’s director, Sheila Foster, says that approximately 40 percent of the families have been adopted, so there’s still plenty of ways for people to help.

Additionally, the Angel Ministry set up an Amazon wishlist full of items needed by families. Unfortunately, due to delivery dates forecasting after Christmas, the wishlist had to be taken down. However, they still need items from the wish list, which can be found at the conclusion of this article. Foster says that some of their most needed items are fleece blankets, toys for very young children, art supplies and stuffed animals.

“Honestly, we could use everything,” said Foster.

Items purchased for the Angel Ministry can be dropped off during business hours at Little Caesars in Brandenburg or the Meade County Messenger’s office.
