For some, staying at home and getting comfy on the couch while watching your favorite show or movie can get old. I consider myself a home body, so I would be content doing this every day for the rest of forever. However, my family isn’t the same way. They like to go out, do things, you know, get out of the house. It’s easy to manage this during the summer. We’ve got Buttermilk Falls, a variety of outdoor activities available, and plenty of events scheduled throughout the community. However, when it’s cold outside, there’s not as much to choose from — or so you would think.
Lumber Jack’s Lodge is a perfect setting for fun. Not only is it family friendly, but where else in town do you have the opportunity to chuck an axe at a wall without fear of litigation? The staff is friendly, it’s a great atmosphere for a family, and I can personally recommend the delicious wings. And, of course, you’re able to enjoy some adult beverages along the way.
Anyone who knows me knows that there are few things I enjoy more than pizza. One of those things is an unlimited amount of pizza. Does that count? Who knows, but Mr. Gatti’s in Brandenburg will give you the opportunity to eat so much pizza you’ll feel like you need to be rolled out of their restaurant. They’ve also got an arcade in the back that’s perfect for the little tot in your family (or the little tot in you). I cleaned house there once by winning the jackpot on the game where you drop a coin in the slot and try to time it just right so that it lines up with the correct portion of a wheel. I may have a secret tip, but I’ll never tell. Be sure to save room for their dessert pizza!
If you’re willing to make a bit of a drive to Corydon, the Golf Shores Fun Center has just about everything you’d need for fun. They have a mini golf course, and who doesn’t like mini golf? If you’re more into video games, they have an arcade that can satisfy your gaming desire. I think this is the perfect spot for a family to go when they want to do a little bit of everything.
Coming up in February, the Louisville Kids Fair promises to be an event for the whole family to enjoy. It’s indoors, so no need to worry about the weather putting a damper on your plans or freezing you to death. Two of their offerings that stick out to me are the zip line and the magic shows. Zip lines are just so cool. It’s all the adrenaline of a thrill ride coupled with the freeness of not having to be buckled into a car or seat. And who doesn’t like magic? I always challenge myself to see if I can figure out how tricks are done. Sometimes I’m right, but most of the time, I just have to accept being mystified, and there’s a lot of fun in that.
Take the trip to Radcliff and visit Blazer’s Fun Zone. You can even get a $5 coupon at the bottom of this page. I have fond memories of playing lazer tag as a kid, and Blazer’s offers “Blazer Tag.” Show your family that you’ve got the best shot, then see which one of you can climb their Bouldering adventure the fastest.
