Update from the Lincoln Trail District Health Department

PRESS RELEASE: ⚠️ Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) April 1, 2020

There is a total of 18 cases of COVID-19 in the Lincoln Trail District. Meade County saw its first two cases, while Hardin has an additional two. Marion, Nelson, and LaRue counties each increased by one. The total number of cases per county is as follows: Hardin--7, LaRue--2, Marion--2, Meade--2, Nelson-- 4, and Washington--1.

The rise in numbers within our counties is expected. The increase in cases that we will experience are not a negative reflection on our hard work to contain this disease, but instead an indication of the highly contagious nature of the virus. The graphic below illustrates the power of social distancing. One person infected with COVID-19 has the potential to infect over 406 people in 30 days. Reducing your contacts by 75% drops the transmission rate to only 2.5 people in 30 days. If you stay home that number could be zero. Please see our press release to review the THE MATH BEHIND SOCIAL DISTANCING infographic. If you disregard our public health officials’ guidance, our medical resources will be depleted before the real crisis hits. Imagine the possibility of too few ventilators, hospital beds, testing supplies, and personal protective equipment for medical personnel to care for those in need. If we do not act now, that will be our reality.
