Using the library from home

By Brenna Cooper, Meade County Public Library  The Meade County Public Library (MCPL) is closed until further notice, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use the Library! We have a multitude of online resources you can access digitally anywhere, anytime. We are rushing to be more available online, and many things are still changing rapidly. Our website and Facebook page are the best places to find current information about things we offer. If you don’t have a way to get online, you can come to the Library and use our free wifi from anywhere in the parking lot. Remember to practice social distancing at all times and drive carefully: construction is still going on for the new community room.  Our website, MeadeReads.org, has links to educational and fun online sites that are free for anyone to use. Information and news about the library is always kept up-to-date and is accessible from there. You can also sign up for a digital library card under the ‘About the Library’ tab and we will mail it to you (please be patient when waiting for your card to arrive: we are working as quickly as we can).  Libby by Overdrive is an app that allows you to access Kentucky Libraries Unbound, a statewide digital library that offers ebooks, magazines, movies, and audiobooks with your MCPL card. Some titles (this month, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) can be checked out by an unlimited number of people at the same time. Books on Libby are available for download on to any device, including older readers.  Hoopla is another digital library that has thousands of titles. You can browse through books, comic, movies, TV series, music, and audiobooks. For now, the limit has been raised to 15 titles per library card per month, but they also have a ‘Bonus Borrows’ collection of items that do not count toward your monthly total. There are no holds or wait lists on hoopla, but you do need to have a web browser or the app to use it.  We’re on social media! You can tag us on Instagram (@MeadeCountyPublicLibrary), on Twitter (@MeadeCoLibrary), or on Facebook (@MeadeReads). Also on our Facebook page (Facebook.com/MeadeReads) are links to free performances, educational resources, and live programs hosted by the Library every week day. Mondays have Zumba at 8:30 a.m., Story Time at 10 a.m., and Chair Yoga at 1 p.m.; Tuesdays have Cardio Fusion at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesdays have Story Time at 10 a.m. and Chair Yoga at 1 p.m.; Thursdays have Strength and Tone at 9:30 a.m.; and Fridays have Zumba at 8:30 a.m., Story Time at 10 a.m., and Gentle Yoga at 1 p.m.  This is a difficult time for everyone as we try to cope with a new way of doing usual activities, but some things can stay the same. We are still here for you! You can reach out to us on social media (we’d love to hear from you: we miss you!) or call us if you have questions or need help with any of our resources. We are reachable at 270-422-2094 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. -3 p.m.
