Viola Reese

Viola Reese, age 94, of Corbin, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 at her home.

Viola was born November 1, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late William Leslie and Mamie Anna Prochaska Hawkins. For over 30 years she was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Barbourville where she taught a children’s Sunday School class for more than 20 years, and was active member of the Women Missionary Union. Upon moving to Corbin she became a dedicated member of First Baptist Corbin. For two years, she attended Bethel Women’s College in Hopkinsville, and obtained her associate degree. Upon her completion at Bethel Women’s College she attended Eastern Kentucky University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Viola continued her education at Union College and earned her Masters degree. She was a teacher and librarian for 20 Years in the Knox County School System. In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband; Rev. Marion Andrew Reese, two sons; James Andrew Reese and Marion Francis Reese, two brothers; William Hawkins, and Elmer Hawkins, and three sisters; Maria Mattox, Hazel Langdon, and Betty Moore. Viola is survived by her daughter; Elizabeth Kay Reese of Corbin, Ky,. daughter in law, Katy Brooks of Gray, Ky., two grandchildren; Francie Powell of Barbourville, Ky., Carrie Brooks of Gray, Ky. and a host of family, friends and loved ones to mourn her passing. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021 at O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Corbin at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Alex Lockridge and Rev. Paul Sims officiating.

Following the services the family will meet for a committal service at Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery in Ekron, Kentucky 2775 Haysville Rd. Ekron, Ky. 40117

In lieu of flowers the family would like for donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Corbin.
