William E. ‘Bill” Popham started life on December 19, 1938. He was born to Nathan and Belva Popham in the Paradise Bottom community of Battletown, KY. Bill started his life fighting, born what they called a “Blue Baby”, with his mid-wife grandmother throwing him in a snowbank so he would take his first breath. (He took great pride in that story.) Bill died on December 16, 2020, at Harrison County Hospital, Corydon, IN.
Bill was a life-long member of Blue River Island Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, moderator, and Music Director over the years. He was a former member of the Harrison Masonic Lodge #122 F&AM and the J.R Dink Chapter of the Eastern Star. He was a life-long farmer and took a lot of pride in his farm. Bill retired from Padgett’s Inc. of New Albany, IN, and was a member of Local 181 Operating Engineers of Louisville, KY.
Bill joined his loving wife of 46 years, Judy, in Heaven. He was also preceded by his parents, one brother, and four sisters, a daughter Debbie, a granddaughter, and many other loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie Popham, Richard (Donna) Popham both of Battletown, and Jim (Debbie) Popham of Spring, TX. He has 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren who will miss him tremendously. He is also survived by 3 sisters; Lorene Lovan of Evansville, IN, Marian (Claude) Kidder of Flaherty, KY, and Margaret (Jack) Bailey of Smyrna, TN. He also has a sister-in-law, Cathe Chapo of Harrison Township, MI. He is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 20, 2020, at 2 P.M. EST from the Chapel of Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cap Anderson Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 19 from 2-6 P.M. EST and Sunday after 11 A.M. at the funeral home. COVID 19 precautions will be required, including the use of masks and social distancing, during the visitation.
