Winter Storm Likely Mid to Late Week

Per the US National Weather Service in Louisville and Ron's Emergency Management FB Page:

Important Updates:

- The Winter Storm Watch has been expanded southward to roughly the Cumberland Parkway as model guidance has trended ice accumulations a bit further south

- While uncertainty remains regarding the timing of precipitation transitions to freezing rain and sleet, overall trend has been for the changeover to occur a bit sooner, especially across Southern Indiana

System Overview

- Widespread rain Tuesday Night - Thursday, with total precipitation amounts of 2.5 - 3.5 inches expected

- Localized flooding will be possible, especially Thursday, with river flooding possible through the weekend

- Rain will begin to transition to a wintry mix from north to south Thursday Morning (mainly across southern IN) through Thursday Evening, with the wintry mix tapering off Thursday Night into early Friday Morning

- Significant accumulations of ice and sleet/snow are possible within the Winter Storm Watch, although impactful ice and sleet accums may still occur outside of the Watch area

Please note that these types of winter storms are extremely complex and very challenging to forecast. Slight variations in the path of the system can result in large differences in the weather we experience. Stay up to date with the latest forecasts.
