75 years ago: March 7, 1946 — Miss Mabel F. Smith
Meade County’s Superintendent, Miss Mabel Frances Smith, is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was formerly a member of Meade County High School Faculty. As M. H. S. Teacher, she is remembered as sponsor of the first Beta Club, Debating Society and history instructor. Because of her ability and splendid service, the Meade County Board of Education selected her to serve as Attendance Supervisor of Meade County. These duties she performed in an excellent manner.
In February of 1944, Miss Smith, again consented to serve her county in another capacity. This time as Acting Superintendent, in the absence of the Superintendent, who is serving in the Armed Forces.
Due to war conditions the task has been hard and many times discouraging but not once has she faltered; always keeping the interest of Meade County youth foremost in her mind and heart.
The teachers, school children and parents of Meade County will never forget the loyalty, unselfishness and capable services of Miss Mabel Frances Smith. May her spirit never die.
